Sight in Cathedral Essays -- Literary Review

Vision is something many mint take for minded(p) every day. Society only deals with the matter of being screen door if they be the less fortunate ones. According to the transcribe Institute, every seven proceedings a person in the United States drowse offs their sight, often as grammatical constituent of the aging process (1). Only two percentage of legally blind people use a guide dog and thirty-five percent use a white deposee. Blindness can be caused from mingled different types of things including (in order) age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and age-related cataracts. (Braille 1). However being blind does not base a person is in total darkness. Some people can see lights and the shapes of objects, but the most import thing is for family and friends to provide foretaste and encouragement. The last thing a person who has lost their sight wants is to lose their family and support, which will led to loneliness. Likewise, in the short story C athedral, by Raymond Carvers, sightlessness is the key element in the story and shows in detail how the characters cause it. The theme Carver conveys in the short story is being adequate to see without sight and is revealed through the characters, tone and plot of the story. The theme in the story of being able to see without sight is revealed through the characters in the story Cathedral. The husband is very judgmental, self-centered and shows a lack of cognition about blind people. This is obvious when he states, My idea of blindness came from the movies. In the movies, the blind move slowly and never laugh (1152). The husband is so quick to judge and thinks he already knows everything about blind people and how they are, so he makes it clear he was not looking in advance to the blind man being in his place ... ...d the blind welcome and it was like Robert was no longer the blind person in the house (Caldwell 3).
